The war in Vietnam was an 11 year struggle for Americans in the 60’s and 70’s. Sadly over 50,800 Americans lost there lives, 26 years later in Afghanistan over 1,025 troops have died and left a lot of troops seriously injured. My opinion is that these troops really shouldn’t have lost there lives, and yes the war that we are in now is turning into another Vietnam. In both wars we have been facing corrupt governments (Taliban, Viet Cong), they have used guerrilla warfare, and both are in unsafe geography for U.S. forces with the jungles in Vietnam which the North Vietnamese could hide in and then jump out. And the mountains in the region of Afghanistan since the Marines don’t know if there is a terrorist with a weapon on the corner. Many civilians were also killed in this war by both sides and made there family, friends, and country dislike the killers which leads to the liking of the other side. We are up to 9 years in Afghanistan, and if things keep going the way it is by the time I wrote this article we might be in there longer than Vietnam. We have to find a way to end these type’s of wars and look for an answer so 59,300 families aren’t affected by the aftermath.
